Boehringer Ingelheim to collaborate on digital diabetes study

17th July 2013

Boehringer Ingelheim has announced a collaboration with Healthrageous and United BioSource to evaluate the potential benefits of a new digital diabetes solution.

The Smart study will see adults with type 2 diabetes utilising a digital diabetes self-management tool from Healthrageous over a period of at least six months, with the aim of making it easier for patients to take charge of their own care.

This web and smartphone-delivered programme includes a personalised action plan with health behaviour improvement goals and a wireless glucose meter transmitting data to clinical monitors, plus at-home blood sugar testing kits.

It is hoped that this can have a positive impact on medical and pharmaceutical costs, clinical care, consumer behaviour modification and biometric health measures.

Senior vice-president Klaus Wilgenbus of Boehringer Ingelheim's business development, licensing and strategy division said: "This project adds nicely to our goal to provide and develop solutions for patients and their families that contribute to a more holistic way of diabetes treatment."

This comes after Boehringer Ingelheim and Lilly recently launched a digital game called Complications Combat to help educate consumers on the best ways of managing type 2 diabetes.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801613276-ADNFCR
