Alcon experiences positive growth in Q2 2013
Alcon experienced a three percent year-on-year increase in its net sales performance during the second quarter of 2013, bringing its total revenue to $2.7 billion (1.76 billion pounds).
Figures from the latest financial report of parent company Novartis revealed that the eye care specialist's surgical franchise led its growth during the three-month period, with the cataract segment performing particularly well.
This sector saw a slight procedural market rebound and market share gains in the US, EU and Japan, while Alcon's vision care and ophthalmic pharmaceuticals divisions also made positive contributions to its bottom line.
For the first half of the year, Alcon's sales total was up to $5.3 billion, representing a two percent improvement on the first six months of 2012 and positioning the company well for continued success during the remainder of 2013.
Alcon was originally founded in 1945 and was purchased outright by Novartis in 2011, making it the second-largest division within the group.
