Boston Scientific launches OptiCross Coronary Imaging Catheter

Boston Scientific has announced the launch of its new OptiCross Coronary Imaging Catheter, which has received regulatory approval in the US, Europe and Japan.

The next-generation intravascular ultrasound catheter has been designed to provide better deliverability and higher resolution imaging to facilitate complex coronary procedures, as well as being compatible with the company's own iLab Ultrasound Imaging System.

Created using feedback from physicians from around the world, it incorporates an upgraded low-profile delivery system, a shorter tapered tip, a bi-segmented catheter shaft and a redesigned catheter hub for ease of connection.

These features can help to reduce the challenges inherent in catheter delivery in complex cases.

Isaac Zacharias, vice-president and general manager for imaging at Boston Scientific, said: "The OptiCross catheter demonstrates Boston Scientific's commitment to advancing intravascular imaging technology and represents the first of a series of related innovations that we expect to launch in the next 18 months."

This comes after the firm launched its new Guidezilla guide extension catheter in the US and Europe earlier this month.
