Cook Medical and IU Health ally on PAD study

Cook Medical and IU Health have announced the commencement of a trial assessing a potential treatment for peripheral arterial disease, a vascular disease of the legs.

The Format study was recently authorised by the US Food and Drug Administration and will include 80 participants from up to 20 treatment centres to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the stent-based treatment.

It is hoped that the stent will be able to address many of the common symptoms of the disease, which can include hip, buttock, thigh or calf discomfort, critical limb ischaemia and erectile dysfunction in the case of men.

Rob Lyles, vice-president of Cook Medical's peripheral intervention division, said: "Having worked with hospitals around the world, Cook Medical is excited to work with a hospital system of the caliber of IU Health right here in our own state."

This comes after the firm earlier this month launched the Biodesign ENT Repair Graft, a new tissue repair solution that aids the natural healing process following nasal and sinus mucosal surgery.
