Fresenius reports record results for first half of 2013
Fresenius has achieved a record-breaking financial performance in the first six months of 2013, allowing the company to raise its forecasts for the year as a whole.
The company's sales during the period came to ten billion euros (8.66 billion pounds), up by eight percent year on year at actual rates, with a five percent organic sales improvement being bolstered by the positive impact of recent acquisitions.
Each of the group's four main divisions – Fresenius Medical Care, Fresenius Kabi, Fresenius Vamed and Fresenius Helios – saw an improved performance compared to last year, while the firm was also able to streamline its operational focus with the sale of its Fresenius Biotech unit to the owners of the pharmaceutical company Neopharm in June.
The company now expects net income to increase by 11 to 14 percent in constant currency terms for the 2013 full year.
Ulf Mark Schneider, chief executive officer of Fresenius, said: "The first-half results underline that our broad geographic presence and well-diversified business contribute to the company's success in a challenging environment."
