Norbrook Laboratories launches apprenticeship scheme
Norbrook Laboratories has announced the launch of a new apprenticeship scheme in collaboration with the nearby Southern Regional College.
Aimed at young people in the greater Newry area, the initiative has been devised to provide new opportunities for school leavers and address the fact that there are currently 22,000 young people unemployed in Northern Ireland.
Having developed level 2 and 3 laboratory and science technician apprenticeships, the firm will provide apprentices with work-related experience and training, combined with science-based qualifications undertaken through the Southern Regional College.
Dr Stephen Farry, Northern Ireland's minister for employment and learning, praised the company for its efforts to help young people gain employment in the pharmaceutical industry.
Lord Ballyedmond, chairman of Norbrook, said: "I am delighted that Norbrook is in a position to make such a significant contribution to training and employment."
The animal health company is one of Northern Ireland's most successful businesses, having formulated and registered more than 800 products in 120 countries.
