Philips showcases new cardiology products at ESC 2013

Philips has unveiled a series of new cardiology products and innovations at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress in Amsterdam.

The most prominent new offering on display at the event was the Epiq ultrasound system, a new platform that is the first to incorporate Anatomical Intelligence, a rich database of anatomic computer models and adaptive system technology.

It has been built with user insights in mind and provides an integrated 3D ultrasound technique that helps clinicians interpret and quantify areas of interest, plan procedures and perform minimally-invasive interventions. 

Gene Saragnese, chief executive officer for imaging systems at Philips Healthcare, said: "Ultrasound is one of the fastest-growing segments in medical imaging, but it is also a highly competitive market where you need to deliver real added value in order to set yourself apart from the competition."

The firm also demonstrated its new IntelliSpace ECG, ST80i Stress Testing System and Xcelera R4.1 multimodality cardiology solution at the conference.

Last month, Philips provided the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship the RFA Argus with one of its Ingenuity CT 64 scanners, in order to help its crew provide medical care.
