Rowlands Pharmacy calls for greater role for UK pharmacists

10th September 2013

Rowlands Pharmacy has highlighted the potential role that pharmacists could play in addressing the excessive workloads being faced by British GPs.

A recent report from the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee has suggested that  GP recruitment challenges – along with the transition of workload from hospitals into primary care – could be solved if pharmacists were allowed to handle more general practice duties.

By providing appropriate training for pharmacists, they would be able to help lessen the burden placed on other parts of the NHS, while also ensuring that patients do not see a decline in care quality.

A spokesperson from Rowlands Pharmacy said this will help to ensure long-term conditions such as asthma are managed more effectively, thus bolstering both GPs' and pharmacists' confidence to treat patients more competently.

The representative added: "We should both utilise and appreciate the full skillsets of our country's pharmacists, as well as encourage and support them during this tough time."

Rowlands Pharmacy offers a wide variety of pharmaceutical services and operates more than 500 community pharmacies throughout England, Scotland and Wales.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801635864-ADNFCR
