Sanofi Pasteur MSD joins EU healthy ageing partnership

Sanofi Pasteur MSD has been recognised for its expertise in preventing infectious disease among the elderly by the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing.

The company has been named as an official partner to the organisation and has been tasked with leading an initiative to help prevent immunosenescence consequences in the EU's ageing population.

It will create an educational web platform on immunosenescence for both healthcare professionals and patients, to be created centrally with country-specific websites tailored and implemented at a local level.

Other partners of the initiative include the University of Maastricht, the start-up companies Syadem and Q3 and the former coordinator of vaccine research and development at the World Health Organization (WHO), plus various geriatricians, infectologists and nutritionists.

Sanofi Pasteur MSD is the first vaccine company to join the scheme and is also the first to be directly involved in driving adherence to immunisation programmes.

This comes after the firm recently announced that its quadrivalent meningococcal disease vaccine Menomune has become the first product of its kind to receive WHO prequalification.
