Philips wins international recognition for sustainability
Philips' commitment to ethical and environmentally-friendly business practices has been recognised by its inclusion in two new industry reports.
The company has maintained its membership of the 2013 Dow Jones Sustainability Index in the industrial conglomerates category, thanks to its performance on issues such as climate strategy, operational eco-efficiency, environmental reporting and human capital development.
It also earned a place in the separate Carbon Disclosure Project Global 500 report, acknowledging the firm's status as a leader in both carbon disclosure and performance for the third consecutive year.
This comes after the company generated 47 percent of its total sales from green products in 2012, with its healthcare division proving a key driver of this improvement thanks to the introduction of 16 new green offerings.
Philips also achieved its five-year carbon reduction target and taking various steps to prevent climate change last year.
Frans van Houten, chief executive officer of Philips, said: "Sustainability is part of our DNA and we aim to make the world healthier and more sustainable by improving the lives of three billion people per year by 2025."
