Bayer HealthCare’s AngioJet shows benefits in new study

Bayer HealthCare has reported positive final data from a registry evaluating the safety and efficacy of its AngioJet Ultra Thrombectomy System.

The first prospective multicentre registry assessing the device in the treatment of peripheral venous and arterial diseases showed that the system was able to deliver an immediate improvement in blood flow in more than 90 percent of all vessels treated.

An 89 percent limb salvage rate in patients with acute limb ischaemia was associated with the product, while 84 percent of people with deep vein thrombosis were shown to be free from recurrence 12 months after treatment.

Statistically significant improvements in quality of life also were demonstrated at three, six and 12 months.

Alan Main, president of Bayer HealthCare's medical care division and member of the Bayer HealthCare executive committee, said: "Treatment with the AngioJet may reduce the need and infusion time for catheter-directed thrombolysis, which can help improve a patient's quality of life and reduce the economic burden on the healthcare system."

Designed to restore blood flow to thrombosed arteries and veins, the device builds on the performance of previous AngioJet systems and provides new ease-of-use and safety benefits.
