Pfizer secures license for Gliknik autoimmune diseases drug

Pfizer has reached a worldwide licensing agreement with Gliknik for its GL-2-45 drug.

The product is currently at the preclinical stage and is being developed for the treatment of autoimmune diseases and cancer. It is designed to replace and improve upon pooled human intravenous immunoglobulin.

Pfizer had paid an initial $25 million (15.4 million pounds) as part of the license agreement and Gliknik also stands to receive development, regulatory and commercial milestone payments.

The company will be eligible for tiered, double-digit royalties on any net sales of products that are commercialised following the license agreement. 

David Block, Gliknik chief executive, commented: "We selected Pfizer as our partner to progress GL-2045 from among several interested and capable parties because of its exceptional development, manufacturing and commercial capabilities."

Pfizer group senior vice-president and head of biotherapeutics research and development Jose Carlos Gutierrez-Ramos said the company is pleased to work with Gliknik and hopes this product may provide a new option for managing debilitating autoimmune diseases.
