Malvern Instruments acquires NanoSight

Malvern Instruments has acquired technology company NanoSight, which will form part of its 'material analysis' operations. 

The company develops instruments that can measure particles and the £15 million deal will see NanoSight contribute to the development of productivity-enhancing instrumentation and controls. 

Malvern is part of the Surrey-based Spectris group, which stated that the acquisition fits in with the company's existing strategy of growing its core business through the acquisition of complementary firms.

John Knowles, chairman and co-founder of NanoSight, said: "We have long admired both Spectris and Malvern Instruments and we are very pleased that NanoSight has found such a suitable home."

The Wiltshire-based company has an existing network of customers across the chemical, academic and pharmaceutical sectors.

Jim Webster, business group director at Spectris, said: "NanoSight's novel Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis technology provides high resolution quantitative analysis of nano-particulate materials which is highly complementary to Malvern's existing measurement capabilities."

The group added that the deal is subject to routine balance sheet adjustments and will be funded through existing cash and finance facilities.
