Pfizer and International Atherosclerosis Society to ally on grant scheme

Pfizer and the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) have entered into a new global collaboration to make grant opportunities available worldwide.

Request for Proposals have been issued to encourage organisations to submit concepts and ideas for the design and implementation of scalable, sustainable programs for healthcare providers and patients in developing countries, designed to improve the management of dyslipidaemia and other heart health risk factors.

Working with Pfizer's Independent Grants for Learning and Change division, the IAS wishes to improve care quality standards for patients around the world with medium or high levels of cardiovascular risk, with a particular focus on dyslipidaemia.

A review committee led by the IAS will ultimately make decisions on which proposals will receive funding, with money to be drawn from a pot of $2 million (1.24 million pounds) to be provided by Pfizer.

This comes after Pfizer recently announced that it has appointed Shantanu Narayen – the president and chief executive officer of Adobe Systems – as a new member of its board of directors.
