Janssen to present simeprevir data at AASLD meeting

Janssen has announced plans to present data on the investigational protease inhibitor therapy simeprevir at this year's American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) annual meeting.

The company will attend the event in Washington DC from November 1st to 5th 2013 to share its findings on how the drug can aid the treatment of genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C in adult patients with compensated liver disease.

This will include phase III trial data from the Promise, Quest 1 and Quest 2 studies, which will demonstrate the therapy's impact on symptoms and quality of life among a range of patient groups.

It has also been confirmed that phase IIa data from the Cosmos trial has been accepted as a late-breaking presentation, demonstrating the potential benefits of combining simeprevir with sofosbuvir, an investigational agent developed by Gilead Sciences.

Gaston Picchio, disease area leader for hepatitis at Janssen, said: "The study results that will be presented at the AASLD annual meeting support the potential utility of simeprevir in a number of different hepatitis C patient populations."
