Sanofi and Genzyme report further positive Aubagio data

14th October 2013

Sanofi and Genzyme have presented new clinical data that reinforces the positive safety and efficacy profile of their recently-approved multiple sclerosis (MS) therapy Aubagio.

Results from the Topic trial showcased at the European Committee for Research and Treatment in Multiple Sclerosis congress showed that the drug was able to significantly reduce the risk of a new clinical relapse or MRI lesion over a two-year period.

As measured by MRI, there was a five percent increase in total lesion volume among patients treated with Aubagio 14 mg over the two years, compared to a 28 percent increase among those treated with placebo.

Genzyme president and chief executive officer Dr David Meeker said: "We are proud to share these results, which underscore Aubagio's potential for treating patients in the earlier stages of MS."

Aubagio was approved by the European Commission in August 2013, while another Sanofi/Genzyme MS therapy – Lemtrada – was ratified the following month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801648861-ADNFCR
