Merck Serono opens new global headquarters in Europe

Merck Serono has announced the official launch of its new modernised global headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany.

The redesigned buildings feature an open office concept intended to encourage project work and collaboration, coming as part of the company's Fit For 2018 transformation programme, which will see the Darmstadt site becoming the central hub of the Merck KGaA group as a whole.

Key positions for research and development at the new facility have already been filled by highly-qualified staff and Merck Serono expects that the cutting-edge nature of the site will help to attract top talent in future.

Stefan Oschmann, the Merck KGaA executive board member responsible for the pharmaceuticals business, said the move "stands for a cultural transformation at Merck Serono toward a work style that is just as flexible as it is goal-oriented".

According to Merck KGaA's most recent financial report, the strong performance of Merck Serono was a key driver of growth for the group as a whole in the second quarter of 2013.
