Boston Scientific receives approval for new surgical leads
Boston Scientific has announced that its new CoverEdge 32 and X 32 surgical leads have received US Food and Drug Administration and CE Mark approval.
Designed to be the world's first 32-contact surgical leads blanketing the spinal cord for unprecedented pain coverage, the leads have been developed for use with the company's own Precision Spectra spinal cord stimulator (SCS) system.
The devices are powered by Illumina 3D Software, a proprietary, anatomy-based computer model for precise pain targeting, making it easier to focus on the neural target without stimulating undesired areas.
By offering 32 contacts powered by dedicated sources, CoverEdge Surgical Leads are designed to deliver more focused coverage of the spinal cord than conventional 16-contact leads.
Maulik Nanavaty, president of neuromodulation at Boston Scientific, said: "The new CoverEdge Surgical Leads allow surgeons to utilise the full potential of our innovative Precision Spectra SCS System and offer their patients an opportunity for excellent pain relief."
Last week, the company announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2014, during which it exceeded its guidance by recording a six percent year-on-year sales improvement.
