Medtronic study shows benefits of cardiac resynchronisation therapy

17th November 2014

Medtronic has announced data from a new study showing the clinical and economic value of its cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) offerings.

Researchers have analysed pooled data from five Medtronic-sponsored randomised controlled trials to further examine the practical benefits of using CRT devices for the treatment of heart failure. The technology was shown to be associated with significant reductions in all-cause 30-day readmissions after heart failure hospitalisations.

Moreover, heart failure patients who benefited early from CRT lived longer and consumed fewer hospital resources than patients who did not experience positive early outcomes from the therapy.

This provides further evidence of the advantages associated with CRT technology, which is currently underutilised in everyday practice.

Dr David Steinhaus, vice-president and general manager for Medtronic's heart failure division and medical director for its cardiac rhythm and heart failure business, said: "Medtronic is committed to bringing forward sound innovation that improves patients' lives and provides economic value by reducing cost to the healthcare system."

Earlier this year, the firm launched a new study of its AdaptivCRT technology, which is set to be the largest global trial of CRT conducted to date.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801760657-ADNFCR
