Boehringer Ingelheim reports positive data from real-world Pradaxa studies
Boehringer Ingelheim has announced new data that demonstrates the safety benefits of its oral anticoagulant Pradaxa in real-world applications.
Two new real-world data analyses presented at the American Heart Association's 2014 scientific sessions have independently demonstrated that routine treatment with Pradaxa is associated with fewer major bleeds and strokes than the older therapy warfarin.
The results of both studies, which involved more than 60,000 atrial fibrillation patients, demonstrate the safety and effectiveness profile of Pradaxa treatment seen during clinical trials can be achieved in broad patient populations receiving routine clinical care for stroke prevention.
Specifically, the results reinforce the conclusions of the company's recent RE-LY clinical study.
Professor Jorg Kreuzer, practising cardiologist and vice-president for the cardiovascular medicine division of Boehringer Ingelheim, said: "Real-world data is extremely valuable to physicians as it provides insights on how the efficacy-safety profile of a medicine is reflected in different patient populations in general practice."
Pradaxa has been approved in more than 100 countries and has accrued more than two million patient-years of experience in all licensed indications globally.
