Bausch & Lomb imaging system approved by FDA
Bausch & Lomb, a subsidiary of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, has secured approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for its new imaging system.
The swept source optical coherence tomography (OCT) and updated software for its VICTUS femtosecond laser platform has now received 150(k) clearance from the governing body.
According to the firm, the platform will provide surgeons with a new intuitive interface, which has been designed to allow faster, simpler and customised treatment to help improve efficiency and patient-flow during surgical procedures.
Dr Ari Kellen, executive vice-president and company group chairman, believes that the advanced OCT imaging will allow surgeons to monitor treatments in real time and with "exceptional clarity" throughout procedures.
She believes this will provide even greater control and consistency in order to support outstanding surgical outcomes for patients.
"These new advancements demonstrate Valeant's commitment to innovation in eye health. We want to deliver technologies that improve clinical practice and provide the best quality of vision to patients," Dr Kellen continued.
The system provides surgeons with high-resolution imaging throughout entire procedures. It can also be used to drive incision depth and detail the architecture of acruate incisions.
