Teva launches generic fusidic acid cream for skin infections

7th April 2015

Teva has announced the UK launch of a generic version of fusidic acid cream, an off-label version of Fucidin from Leo Laboratories.

The cream is used in the treatment of non-severe, superficial, non-extensive, primary and secondary skin infections and is available as a two percent solution in 15 g and 30 g tubes.

It is expected that the launch of this new product will lead to significant savings for the NHS. Data from the British Generic Manufacturers' Association indicates that the NHS drugs bill would be more than twice its current level without generics, with off-label products saving the health service more than 12 billion pounds a year.

Paul Burden, director for generics at Teva, said: "We're pleased to be among the first to bring a generic version of this medicine to the UK and to be able to help bring the cost of treating these conditions down."

The company is celebrating its 80th anniversary in the UK this year, following on from the tenth anniversary of its adoption of the Teva UK brand name in 2014.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801782620-ADNFCR
