Thermo Fisher Scientific reports strong growth in Q2 2015
Thermo Fisher Scientific has reported its financial results for the second quarter of 2015, during which it delivered a revenue total of $4.27 billion (2.74 billion pounds).
This was down slightly from its $4.32 billion total in 2014, but its adjusted earnings per share total saw a seven percent year-on-year increase at $1.84. It was also able to expand its adjusted operating margin by 90 basis points to 22.3 percent.
During the quarter, the firm launched a number of new products, including the Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid mass spectrometer for proteomics, the Q Exactive GC-MS/MS device for research and applied markets, and the cloud-enabled QuantStudio 3 and 5 real-time PCR systems for genomics applications.
It was also able to expand its bioproduction capabilities in the UK with the opening of a new manufacturing facility and launched a customer experience centre in Dubai, while agreeing a $400 million deal to acquire Alfa Aesar.
As a result, the company has raised its full-year 2015 revenue and earnings guidance to reflect current foreign currency exchange rates and strong operating performance. Revenue for 2015 is now expected to be in the range of $16.72 to $16.86 billion.
Marc Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "We fully leveraged our depth of capabilities to capture opportunities for growth and executed well to achieve excellent top and bottom-line results."
