Boston Scientific’s Precision Spectra SCS system shows low back pain benefits

16th December 2015

Boston Scientific has reported positive clinical trial data showing the effectiveness of its Precision Spectra spinal cord stimulator (SCS) system in addressing low back pain.

Data from the LUMINA study has demonstrated that the device provides more than 70 percent greater low back pain relief than with the previous generation Precision Plus system, with a significant decrease in average pain scores over a two-year period.

Additionally, when the Precision Spectra SCS was used with the company's 32-contact CoverEdge Surgical Lead, further pain relief in patients with low back pain was demonstrated over 12 months.

These improved outcomes were achieved using the Precision Spectra's proprietary Illumina 3D neural targeting algorithm, which is designed to enable precise control with simple point-and-click targeting.

Maulik Nanavaty, president of neuromodulation at Boston Scientific, said: "This conclusive LUMINA real-world clinical data demonstrates that the Precision Spectra SCS system is a significant advancement for improving the lives of patients with chronic pain."

The company's range of Precision SCS systems also includes the Precision Novi device, launched in Europe earlier this year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801808313-ADNFCR
