Topical botulinum drug product candidate helps treat axillary hyperhidrosis

24th December 2015

Clinical trials involving a RT001 topical botulinum toxin type A investigational drug product candidate have seen positive results.

A study by Revance Therapeutics, a specialty biopharmaceutical company, found that RT001 can be an effective treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis – excessive underarm sweating.

Just one treatment of RT001 topical gel was found to have achieved clinically meaningful efficacy by the fourth week.

Dan Browne, president and chief executive of Revance, said the company is "very pleased with the Phase 2 interim results, as they provide strong clinical evidence that RT001 is able to safely deliver botulinum toxin topically to reduce the severity and quantity of underarm sweat.

"Quantitatively, the gravimetric data shows clinically meaningful sweat reduction for both doses of RT001 and, at the higher dose, RT001 was statistically significant versus placebo," he commented.

Mr Browne added that the team now plans to advance RT001 into a larger, well-powered hyperhidrosis Phase 2 study in 2016, which will be designed to confirm a final dose. ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801808902-ADNFCR
