BDIA highlights danger of counterfeit dental devices ahead of GDC hearing
The British Dental Industry Association (BDIA) has warned dentists of the risks of using counterfeit devices ahead of a forthcoming General Dental Council (GDC) meeting.
Details of a fitness to practice hearing concerning the deliberate use of counterfeit dental devices have been published by the GDC ahead of the hearing itself, which will be held on January 18th.
As such, the BDIA – which has been campaigning to raise awareness of the dangers of counterfeit and non-compliant dental devices over the last 18 months – has taken the opportunity to draw attention to the issue once again.
The association has warned of the potential dangers the use of such devices can pose not only to patients' health, but also to the professional's registration status if they are found to have acted in bad faith.
BDIA executive director Tony Reed said the hearing "raises concerns for those dentists who may have purchased from unreliable sources and reinforces the importance of purchasing from reputable suppliers".
The organisation will continue to work closely with the profession and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency to crack down on this practice.
