CQC report highlights generally good standard of GP care
The majority of patients attending GP practices in England are receiving a good standard of care, according to new data from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
A further 68 reports have been issued on the quality of care provided by GP practices that have been inspected by specialist CQC inspectors, with 65 practices shown to be good and three rated as outstanding.
One practice, Orchard Surgery in Slough, has been taken out of special measures following improvements in the quality of its services, meaning that after more than 3,000 inspections, most care can be categorised as being at least good.
Moreover, the total number of practices rated outstanding is now 118, with more than one million patients in England currently receiving care from practices that have achieved this rating.
Professor Steve Field, chief inspector of general practice at the CQC, said: "I am glad to say that we have increasingly found that most practices that are placed in special measures use the support that is on offer to meet those standards."
