Boehringer Ingelheim provides funding to support PCV2 research

4th March 2016

Boehringer Ingelheim has announced the winners of a series of grants for European researchers to support their porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) studies.

This marks the ninth time that the company has handed out these grants. Over the past nine years, 26 research projects have been awarded with a total of 650,000 euros (502,800 pounds).

For 2016, a team from the Netherlands received funding for their work studying the PCV2-infection status of newborn piglets on endemically infected farms, while a German team were recognised for their efforts to understand the infection dynamics of PCV2 in different stages of pig production.

Finally, a Belgian researcher was provided with a grant for pioneering research into the degree of replication in lymphoblasts and lysis in monocytic cells of PCV2 in different pig breeds.

A maximum of three prizes, each worth 25,000 euros, are granted to European researchers every year in order to advance scientific knowledge in the area of PCV2 research. Winners are decided by an independent review board of leading European scientists.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801814090-ADNFCR
