Dechra launches Zycortal at BSAVA 2016
Dechra is introducing vets to its new treatment for Addison's disease at this week's British Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress (BSAVA 2016).
Zycortal is the only European licensed treatment for the condition, which is also known as hypoadrenocorticism and is caused by a reduction in corticosteroid secretion from the adrenal glands.
It is a prolonged-release suspension used as replacement therapy for mineralocorticoid deficiency in dogs with Addison's disease, and has proved highly effective in clinical trials, with more than 80 percent of dogs responding positively to treatment.
Symptoms of the disease can include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, lack of appetite, tremors or shaking, muscle weakness, low body temperature, low heart rate and collapse. It can be life-threatening if left untreated.
Craig Sankey, Dechra's brand manager, said: "Our team will be on hand at the BSAVA Congress to explain and discuss the benefits that Zycortal can bring to their day to day practice in the fight against this illness."
The congress runs from today (April 7th) to the 10th at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, during which attendees will also be able to attend a talk on Addison's disease from Professor Ian Ramsey.
