3M launches Ketac Universal Aplicap restorative material

3M has announced the launch of its new glass ionomer restorative material, called Ketac Universal Aplicap.

Unveiled at the Dentistry Show, the material offers linings for single and multiple-surface composite fillings and is non-stick, easy to place and offers enough strength to use for long-term and stress-bearing indications.

It also saves time by eliminating the need for a coating, yet still delivers compressive strength and surface hardness that are higher than several competitive glass ionomers that do utilise coatings.

In a trial, 94 percent of dentists using the material said it enabled them to carry out easy one-step placement, while 84 percent said the new design of the nozzle led to better access to deep cavities.

Meanwhile, 75 percent said the material's low level of stickiness to instruments allowed for easier placement.

Amy Driver, marketing executive at 3M, said: "The handling for Ketac Universal Aplicap is fantastic: it's completely non-stick; it is durable and easy to place; it also doesn't require a glaze. Patients can eat and drink ten minutes after application."
