Women ‘change their toothbrush more often than men’
A new study has indicated that women are more aware of the need to regularly change their toothbrush than men.
The survey, carried out by Carisbrook Dental, has indicated that on average, women change their toothbrush every 92 days, whereas men keep using their brushes for an average of 185 days before changing it.
It means women are generally adhering to the advice that toothbrushes be changed every three months for optimum oral health, whereas men are not.
Dr Tariq Idrees, owner of Carlsbrook Dental, said: "Throwing your toothbrush out after three months might seem like a short time, but think of the germs, viruses and bacteria it is exposed to daily."
Further findings from the survey provided additional evidence of this gender split, showing that 57 percent of women use electric toothbrushes to clean their teeth, compared to only 32 percent of men.
Additionally, women spend 42 pounds on their dental care each year on average – compared to 24 pounds for men – while males were also shown to be more likely to use a partner's toothbrush then women.
