Amgen’s Kyprolis shows survival benefits in new clinical studies
Amgen has announced new clinical trial data showing the benefits its drug Kyprolis can provide in the treatment of relapsed multiple myeloma.
Results from a post-hoc analysis of the pivotal phase III ASPIRE study have highlighted the progression-free survival benefits of continued treatment with Kyprolis in combination with lenalidomide and dexamethasone in patients with relapsed multiple myeloma.
Cumulative response rates continued to increase over time, most notably during the first 15 months of treatment. Kyprolis treatment over 18 months was shown to reduce the risk of progression or death by 42 percent during that period.
Separate sub-analyses of the phase III ENDEAVOR study further confirmed the efficacy and depth of response benefits of Kyprolis plus dexamethasone, while also showing the advantages the drug offers compared to bortezomib.
Dr Sean Harper, executive vice-president of research and development at Amgen, said: "This abundant clinical research provides substantive, meaningful evidence for Kyprolis as a foundational therapy for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma patients."
The drug was recently recommended for approval in the treatment of relapsed multiple myeloma by Europe's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use.
