Baxter study shows benefits of telemedicine
Baxter has reported the findings of a newly-published study that demonstrates the value provided by remote monitoring technology for chronic health conditions.
Published in the medical journal PLOS ONE, the research indicates that healthcare systems in the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain have delivered value by using telemedicine options in the management of conditions such as end-stage renal disease.
The study indicates that remote monitoring may improve access to care, decrease hospitalisations and reduce treatment costs by helping healthcare professionals manage patients' treatment and improving adherence.
Giuseppe Accogli, president of Baxter's renal business, said: "Baxter conducted this study to better understand the perceived multifaceted value of remote monitoring, and the continued need for supportive funding and policies that may enable more patients to have access to the new technology."
Baxter recently launched its AMIA automated peritoneal dialysis system with Sharesource, a cloud-based, two-way remote connectivity platform that enables remote patient management in the US, and the Homechoice Claria APD system with Sharesource in Europe.
Sharesource allows healthcare professionals to deliver individualised dialysis care and on-demand access to treatment data while the patient is at home.
