Novo Nordisk to expand insulin production plant in Kalundborg

6th July 2016

Novo Nordisk has announced an extension to the world's largest insulin production plant in Kalundborg in Denmark.

The company will spend 400 million Danish kroner (45.91 million pounds) on the planned 500 sq m expansion, with a ground-breaking ceremony having already taken place. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Currently, the Kalundborg production site covers a total area of 1.1 million sq m and employs 3,400 people. It is a cornerstone of the firm's global production infrastructure and produces 50 percent of the world's insulin, as well as a range of biopharmaceutical products.

The new expansion will also align with Novo Nordisk's ambition to continue strengthening its presence in Kalundborg.

Michael Hallgren, senior vice-president and head of production at Kalundborg, said: "The new facilities will give us greater flexibility and enable the installation of equipment that will enhance efficiency and increase the long-term production capacity of the plant."

This comes after the firm commenced work on a new $2 billion production facility in Clayton, North Carolina earlier this year.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801821383-ADNFCR
