Henry Schein Ortho to Distribute Eversmile smartIPR
Henry Schein Orthodontics (HSO) has entered into an exclusive US distribution agreement with Eversmile for the smartIPR interproximal reduction system. Announced on 6 July 2026, the deal brings the oscillating IPR platform to HSO’s US customer base, extending the orthodontics business of Henry Schein into a modernised chairside category traditionally handled with hand strips and spinning disks that carry higher risk of tissue trauma.
smartIPR combines a vibrating handpiece with non-rotating, lubricated smart DISKS that gently glide between teeth, polishing enamel surfaces and creating precise interproximal space. The oscillation-based approach is positioned to allow clinicians to open tight interproximal contacts gradually and with more control, reducing the risk of cutting hard or soft tissue that has historically been associated with razor-sharp hand strips and rotating disks. The system-based approach integrates into chairside orthodontic workflows without disrupting established treatment protocols.
Zachary Meli, Vice President and General Manager at HSO, framed the deal as an expansion of clinically driven solutions that improve orthodontic efficiency and patient experience. Dr Michael Florman, President and CEO of Eversmile, said smartIPR has generated strong clinician interest since its introduction and that HSO’s distribution reach would materially expand access. The addition strengthens HSO’s family of specialist brands, which already includes Carriere Motion, Ortho Technology, Smilers and Nemotec. HSO’s strategy centres on collaborating with technology innovators across orthodontics to bring differentiated chairside solutions to market through a unified commercial platform.
The commercial signal here is the wider shift in orthodontic chairside tools from single-instrument products toward system-based platforms with clearer clinical safety profiles. As aligner-driven treatment plans generate more IPR volume, tools that reduce clinician variability and improve patient comfort are increasingly viable procurement priorities. HSO’s aggregation strategy across specialist brands positions it to compete more directly with Ormco and 3M in the segment.
