Bayer completes acquisition of Sagmel’s OTC brand portfolio

3rd June 2008

Bayer has announced the successful acquisition of Sagmel’s over-the-counter (OTC) brand portfolio and related assets.

As of today (June 3rd), the US-based firm’s OTC business – which includes products such as nutritional brands Theravit, Calcemin and Jungle – will become part of Bayer HealthCare.

Gary Balkema, president of Bayer’s consumer care division, explains that the firm is “extremely pleased” to have completed the purchase in a timely fashion, adding that he strongly believes in advantages and opportunities that the transaction offers.

“The combined portfolio of Sagmel and Bayer Consumer Care offers a very strong and attractive platform to further strengthen our business in one of the world’s fastest growing and most dynamic regions,” Mr Balkema adds.

Announced in March 2008, the transaction will place Bayer among the top 5 OTC firms in the Commonwealth of Independent States, the organisation concludes.

Bayer also announced today that it had committed more than $2.5 million (1.27 million pounds) to advance global haemophilia research.
