GlaxoSmithKline names new chief digital and technology officer
GlaxoSmithKline has announced the appointment of Karenann Terrell as its new chief digital and technology officer, effective as of September 4th.
Ms Terrell will be handed a company-wide remit to transform how new technologies are used to improve performance across the business, with responsibility for developing its digital, data and analytics strategy.
In this capacity, she will work with partners from inside and outside the healthcare sector to bring new technologies to GlaxoSmithKline, enhancing areas such as clinical trials and drug development, increasing efficiency and improving how the firm interacts with external partners and consumers.
She joins the firm from Walmart, where she served as chief information officer and helped to transform the company's use of data, analytics and digital engagement.
Emma Walmsley, chief executive officer of GlaxoSmithKline, said: "As a member of the executive team, Karenann will have the scope to think radically about how we can exploit the latest opportunities and ultimately improve our business performance."
This comes after the firm also recently named Dr Laurie Glimcher, chief executive and president of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, as a new non-executive director and board member.
