Laboratory Scientist
Role Overview
You will work closely with a dedicated team of scientists and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the consistency, quality, and scientific credibility of biospecimen products used in cutting-edge biomedical research.
Company Information
Zenopa have partnered with a UK-based company supplying human blood biospecimens for research. They recruit healthy volunteer donors, collect a range of blood samples, process them in a licensed facility, and deliver to researchers across Europe. They operate under strict ethical, quality, and safety standards.
Role Requirements
Process and isolate immune cells from human blood donations, applying controlled-rate freezing and cryopreservation techniques while maintaining accurate lab records.
Enhance internal QC protocols, support assay development, and optimise flow cytometry workflows, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
Train and mentor a team of five, ensuring adherence to lab protocols and fostering scientific best practice.
Assist in implementing new flow cytometry panels and recommend equipment, reagents, and processes to expand capabilities.
Collaborate with operational, clinical, and management teams while representing the lab’s scientific integrity to external stakeholders.
Person Specifications
Experience in human blood processing and immune cell isolation.
Proficiency in flow cytometry (basic to intermediate level).
Familiarity with qPCR or molecular biology techniques.
Understanding of lab safety, aseptic technique, and compliance.
Comfortable handling Tier 1 donor material (Hep A, Hep B, HIV screened).
BSc or MSc in Biomedical Science, Biology, Immunology, or related discipline.
Proactive and improvement-driven mindset.
Passion for lab-based work and the scientific process.
Strong communication and training abilities.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to product quality.
Independent and adaptable within a scale-up environment.
Ambitious and interested in progressing toward lab leadership.
Desirable Experience:
Exposure to products/workflows from BD Biosciences, Meridian, or similar providers.
Hands-on experience with cryopreservation techniques.
Previous work in commercial, academic, or clinical research labs.
Knowledge of QC processes (formal ISO/QMS certification not required).
