Boehringer becomes leading player in animal health R&D expenditure following merger with Merial

Boehringer Ingelheim’s chief information officer Michael Schmelmer has revealed that a conservative figure of 9% of its annual sales was dedicated to animal health R & D in 2017, much more than any competitor in this field. The average spend on R&Dvcin animal heath’s largest companies is 8.3%. Their head of animal health Joachim Hasenmaier added that 90% of the R & D money was spent on vaccines, antiparasitics and therapeutics, leaving 10% to explore new areas like diagnostics and digital technologies.
