NHS England Initiative announced to retain GP’s

In a bid to try and capture those leaving general practice, NHS England has announced a new £10 million fund initiative.
Through a new GP retention fund, £7 million of the fund will be streamed through regional based schemes promoting new ways of working and offering additional support to GPs. Yet to be announced by NHS England, the remaining £3 million will be used across the country in areas where GP’s have struggled to be retained.
Dr Richard Vautrey, British Medical Association GP committee chair. Noted that “Doctors face the pressures of rising demand, low resources and the Increasing administrative burden.” And stated that “local initiatives aim to hold onto the valuable work forces that keeps high quality community based generalised care running on a daily basis.”
He added that he hoped the plans were “just the start of more initiatives to tackle GP’s escalating workload” and the “more options and greater flexibility fir experienced GP’s” are available in the future.
