Early stage UK trials launched to test new Leukaemia treatment for adults and children

Early stage trials have been launched in the UK to assess if Astra Zeneca and MSD’s selumtinob combined with dexamethasone would be an effective combination to treat leukaemia in adults and children.
Clinical trails overseen by Cancer Research UK will take place at the University of Birmingham and will include children and adults who have had a relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).
“Although there are effective treatments for leukaemia, for some patients, the disease can return after they have been treated. If this combination is successful, it could give us an urgently needed new way to treat patients who have relapsed and have few treatment options left,” noted Professor Josef Vormoor, international clinical lead for the trial.
