UK back Iontas for Chronic Pain Antibody project

Iontas have been awarded an £800,000 grant from the UK to develop its antibody based therapies for chronic pain.
The grant has been given to Iontas from Biomedical Catalyst Primer scheme which is designed to offer smaller academic groups and business support when it comes to obtaining funding for their projects.
The grant will be used to develop Iontas’ ‘KnotBody,’ an antibody to target the Nav 1.7 sodium ion channel and G protein coupled receptors and hard to reach proteases.
The Nav 1.7 channel emerged in early 2000, as a drug target for new analgesics, but early drug development attempts were scuppered due to side effects. Other pharmaceutical companies are still researching and developing drugs in this area but nothing has been successful as of yet.
