NHS England names two more Local Health and Care Record Exemplars

Local Health and Care Record Exemplars (LHCRE) consist of one or more Sustainability Transformation Partnerships (STPs). Their role is to assess and plan for demand in local services in order to cater for future needs, and to create an integrated, electronically shared local health and care record across their regions. Yorkshire and the Humber, and Thames Valley and Surrey have been selected as the next two LHCREs and will received up to £7.5 million each over two years to complete the project.

Together with the existing LHCREs of Greater Manchester, Wessex and One London, Yorkshire and the Humber, and Thames Valley and Surrey will integrate 40% of England into the shared local health and care record. This will ensure that health and care staff will have better and quicker access to patient information, rather than having to rely on slower communication methods as they do currently.

Matthew Swindells, national director of operations and information at NHS England said: “In the NHS’s 70th year, the local health and care record programme will take the NHS to a world leading position in using information technology to join up services, reduce errors, speed the adoption of new innovations, and give patients control over their own care. The Exemplars will be our trail blazers for that transformation.”
