Public Sector workers to receive the biggest pay rise in nearly 10 years

The government are set to give a million public sector workers the biggest pay rise in nearly 10 years.
The move confirms the scrapping of the 1% pay cap and follows the union campaigns for higher wage rises, with the increases being made affordable within their spending plans.

Details of the rises include:
• Classroom teachers in both England and Wales will see a 3.5% rise
• A pay grant of £508m from the Department for Education will be given to English schools
over the next two years to cover increases. Schools in Wales will rely on money from the
devolved government.
• Armed forces will receive a 2% rise with a supplement of a one off non-consolidated payment
of 0.9% this year to meet the 2.9% rise recommended by the Armed Forces Pay Review Body..
• Prison workers will receive a 2% annual pay rise with a one-off non-consolidated payment of
0.75%
• English junior doctors, specialist doctors, GPs and dentists will also receive a 2% pay increase
and consultants will see a 1.5% increase.
• Scottish NHS Staff were offered a 9% pay rise across 3 years in June this year.
