Unheard of disease in pigs triggers surge in vaccine sales

10th August 2018

Oedema, a largely disappearing disease in pigs is re-emerging causing an increase in sales for the vaccine, Ecoporc Shiga.
The vaccine has protected over 47 million European pigs against the disease since its launch 5 years ago, and has saved three millions pigs lives, an estimated value of over 100 million Euros.
Vaccine developer IDT Bilogika said “vaccination starts when the mortality rate from the disease exceeds 3%”
Whilst veterinary surgeons are unsure of the reasons for the resurfacing of Oedema, vaccination has proven to be highly successful in German farms, and is protecting over 10% of pigs in other countries.
