Electronic prescriptions now used in all GP practices in London

16th August 2018

1,311 GP practices in London have made the switch to using an electronic prescription service (EPS), which is saving hours of time and money according to NHS digital.
Patient prescriptions are sent directly from their doctor’s surgery to their pharmacist, with electronic repeat prescriptions helping professional to optimise their time more efficiently by allowing prescribers to authorise prescriptions in batches for up to 12 months with one digital signature.
“I’m really pleased this service is now available for all London based GP’s,” said Keith Farrar, senior responsible owner for Digital Medicines at NHS England. “This electronic service supports the patients’ need for prescriptions whilst cutting down on the administration, freeing up time and resources to concentrate on patient care directly.”
According to NHS Digital the EPS is estimated to have saved the NHS £130 Million over the past three years.
