Business and academia form alliance over medicines manufacturing

Eli Lilly has committed £5m to fund a six year research project to be undertaken by themselves, Imperial College London and UCL on transforming medicines manufacturing in England. Their research will look at how medicines can be manufactured more efficiently using Process Systems Engineering methods, building more predictive models, designing more effective experiments, and improving the design of pharmaceutical manufacturing systems. Their aim is to produce better and more affordable outcomes for patients.
The partners said: “Applying PSE methods to the pharmaceutical industry has the potential to increase efficiency, decrease wastage and resolve quality control issues across the manufacturing process.”
