BDA call for UK programme to tackle tooth decay in England

The British Dental Association has called for a nationwide programme to be set up to tackle childhood tooth decay in England.

In response to Lancashire’s children showing the worst levels of tooth decay compared to the rest of the UK, Councillor Andrea Kay is calling on practices to send trainees into schools to educate children on the importance of looking after their teeth.

“Authorities in Wales and Scotland have invested in national programmes that reach out to schools and nurseries highlighting the importance of oral health.” said Mick Armstrong, BDA Chair. “The UK government has created a manifesto committed to improving oral health in young children but not a penny has been put in to the new investment. The NHS will keep spending millions on extracting baby teeth until policy makers step this up. Kids in England deserve better.”
