Health and care system is holding back STPs from improving the health of London population

An independent report from the kings fund has looked at the progress made in the past year by London sustainability and transformation partnerships (STP) that were set up to help and improve the health care services, and have concluded that the system is holding back plans to improve the health of the population.

According to the report, London’s 5 STP’s have spent the last year focusing on the internal workings of the partnerships, building relationships and addressing gaps in staff and public engagement. The challenges they are facing are the workforce shortages, funding and the rapid growth.

Helen Mckenna, one of the authors of the report commented “London’s STPS faces workforce, operational and demographic pressures compared to other STPs in the UK. They need to work alongside the NHS, the Mayor and the Boroughs to improve patient services. Whilst there is some improvement, now is the time to review and develop a clear future of health and care for Londoners.”
