Jurox hosts ‘Achieve safer anaesthesia with ASA’ lecture at LVS
Jurox (UK) Ltd, manufacturer of the popular anaesthetic Alfaxan®, will be hosting an educational lecture at the London Vet Show (LVS) focusing on the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ (ASA) guidelines and their role in practice.
The lecture, which takes place at 11.25am in Gallery Suite 7 on Friday 16 November, is entitled ‘Achieve safer anaesthesia with ASA’ and will provide delegates with a practical overview of the role of the guidelines in practice. The session will be presented by the leading anaesthesia and analgesia specialist, Joanne Michou MA, VetMB, DipECVAA, MRCVS, Specialist in Anaesthesia at Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists.
Joanne Michou will take delegates though the ASA patient status classification, discussing the benefits and limitations of this system, illustrating each category with case studies. She will provide recommendations on anaesthetic protocols and what to consider when anaesthetising complicated and compromised patients. In addition, Joanne will showcase an adapted ASA grading table developed alongside Alex Dugdale, Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia at ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists and Dan Cripwell, Advanced Veterinary Practitioner and Veterinary Technical Advisor at Jurox. This adaptation to the existing human ASA grading system includes extensive veterinary examples, allowing for easier identification of patients of different physical status classifications, and therefore making it more applicable to the clinical veterinary setting.
Visitors to the Jurox stand (stand F35) at LVS will be able to learn more about the ASA guidelines, Alfaxan and the company’s newly launched anaesthesia and analgesia products. They can take part in an Alfaxan golden ticket offer, whereby delegates will have the chance to win a star prize if their Alfaxan chocolate bar contains a golden ticket. Coffee and biscuits will also be available to enable delegates to recharge their batteries!
